Windows 8 issue
how to fix the Windows DVD issue
The most common Windows 8 issue cited by new users is the problem with the detection of the CD Drive or DVD Drive in the system. Barring other minor issues, which are few, this one sure has managed to get on the wrong side of the users of the latest version of the Windows operating system. The bungling of such a simple feature that was with minimal flaws makes Microsoft seems careless and even negligent. Essentially, the user cannot play or access a CD or DVD, because the drive is not displayed in the Windows Explorer or even in the Device Manager. This Windows 8 issue may occur if the OS is installed, or a previous version of it is updated.
Though the root causes are yet unknown, there are a few possible fixes for this issue.
Method 1
·         Run the command prompt from the start menu in Windows. Do this with the administrator rights. When the User account access dialog appears, click Yes. Alternatively, refer the windows 8 guide for other methods to launch a program with admin rights.
·         When the prompt shows, paste the following code:
reg.exe add “HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0″ /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0×00000001
·         Close the command prompt and restart the computer. The issue must be repaired by now.
If the above procedure does not work for you, then continue to the next method.
Method 2
Fix Windows DVD
getting around the DVD drive detection problem
If you are too lazy to open the command prompt and get the code in, then try using a free utility to induce the detection of the CD or DVD drive by the system. CD-DVD Icon Repair is one such tool that can be downloaded freely from the internet. It is portable software that works to make Windows recognize the presence of the CD or DVD drive on the system. Though it was primarily designed for use with Windows 7, it is seen to run effectively and without problems on the Windows 8 OS also. All you need to do is launch the software, and when you have done this, click on the Repair CD-DVD Icon button. This’ll fix the problem after you have restarted the PC.
These are the main fixes to the issue with the DVD drive detection in Windows 8. Hope this article was helpful and relevant.
